Dysport® Injections for Wrinkles

Dysport®

Dysport® is an Abobotulinum toxin, typeA injection prescribed to temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate and severe wrinkles and frown-lines on the face, and around the eyes and forehead. Over time and as we age, we use certain facial muscles over-and-over, repetitiously, which causes creasing, wrinkles and frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). Every time we frown, squint or use these muscles, we increase the potential of creating unsightly wrinkles, which can make us appear old, tired or even angry. Dysport® is an injectable prescription used to minimize and even eliminate the appearance of these lines and wrinkles in adults 18 - 65 years of age.

Dysport is formulated for the use of trained physicians and healthcare practitioners to deliver temporary improvements of aging, wrinkles and furrows. Dysport® injections are injected into specific muscle areas to relax and diminish the lines and wrinkles in that region, resulting in a more youthful, revitalized appearance. Each treatment will deliver noticeable results within 24-48 hours and over the next few months. When wrinkles re-appear, injections are repeated to get the same results, every four to six months.

Why Dysport®

Dysport® is an FDA approved prescription and it is safe to use and it has a growing list of uses, such as: temporarily reduce facial lines, eliminate migraine headaches and treat muscle spasms caused by athletic injuries for people 18 and older. Patients see noticeable results with just one set of injections. Dysport paralyzes the muscles in the injected area by blocking the signals between the nerve and the muscles, resulting in a limited use of muscle activity and temporarily preventing the use of them, eliminating the lines in the area.

Dysport® is safe, but it is derived from Botulinum toxin, a powerful toxic protein that is considered to be one of the most effective neurotoxin treatments ever discovered. Dysport® is manufactured by Medecis, a company that also distributes other cosmetic and aesthetic products.

Dysport® helps people look more youthful, rested and refreshed. It can take years off your facial appearance and add more vibrant expression to your face.

After you decide Dysport® is right for you, schedule a 30 minute appointment to discuss your goals with a trained physician or clinician. Once your provider determines your needs, he or she will tell you the proper amount of Dysport® needed to achieve the desired results. This will depend on how many lines and wrinkles you have and if they are deep or superficial. Once determined, your Dysport® trained healthcare specialist will take the proper measured amount and inject the Dysport® into specific muscle locations to “relax” or “paralyze” the muscles and treat the lines.

Dysport® for You

After you have decided that Dysport® is right for you, follow this list of recommendations:

  1. Locate a trained physician or healthcare specialist in your area.
  2. Make an appointment and discuss your treatment goals with your physician.
  3. Ask what the proper amount would be to treat your case.
  4. Learn about the side effects of Dysport® and ask questions about the treatment.
  5. Review before and after pictures of other patients.
  6. See the improvement almost immediately and within 24-48 hours, results will continue to improve over the next 7-30 days.
  7. Dysport® results can last between 3 and 6 months. Patients should wait at least 90 days between treatments.

Dysport® a Solution that Works

Patients who get Dysport® injections see the difference in their appearance right away or at least within 24 hours, which is why they come back for more treatments. Dysport® is temporary and meant only to last for up to six months, per treatment. If you notice deep lines that make you appear tired, angry and old, then Dysport® may be the perfect solution.

Dysport® Safety and Side Effects

Dysport® is clinically tested, FDA approved and safe, but there can be side-effects. Any time you inject a toxin into the system, even if it is safe, there can be side effects. The most common side effects are mild, such as: uneven brows or droopiness in the eye areas if injected too low into the forehead. In addition, patients may need time to adjust to the limited movement in the injected areas, for example, around the mouth.

Dysport® can cause serious side effects, even life-threatening ones. If you experience unusual discomfort after getting Dysport® then you should contact a doctor or get help immediately. Here are some warning signs to seek medical help:

  • Difficulty with speaking, swallowing, and breathing. These symptoms can occur within hours or weeks. The reaction is caused when the injection complicates muscle reaction. If you notice these problems seek medical attention.
  • If you experience breathing problems or have Asthma, then ask your physician before getting Dysport®
  • If swallowing problems occur, they may last for several months, and may require treatment.
  • Dysport® can spread and affect other areas of the body away from the injection site. This is rare, but it can occur. If you notice muscle complications, seek help for this condition called botulism.

The most common symptoms of botulism include:

  • muscle weakness and loss of strength
  • blurred or double vision
  • drooping eyelids
  • voice change or hoarseness called (dysphonia)
  • speech impairment and trouble speaking clearly (dysarthria)
  • bladder control issues and loss of control
  • breathing problems
  • swallowing problems

These symptoms can happen hours to weeks after you receive an injection of Dysport® and they will require medical attention. If these symptoms occur, you should avoid activities that may be dangerous, like operating vehicles.

No serious confirmed case of spread of toxin effect has occurred away from the injection site when Dysport® when used at the recommended dose.

Patients must confirm with the practitioner or physician that they are in fact receiving the labeled product Dysport® in the appropriate container. Complications and cases have been caused by people proclaiming to administer Dysport, when in fact the product was something different and not approved.

Botox Versus Dysport

BOTOX® was introduced and manufactured by Allergan (the company that also produces JUVÉDERM®, Medicis, a dermal filler leader (known for their popular Restylane® and Perlane® facial fillers) produces Dysport™

The popularity of BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic encouraged the arrival of Dysport™ into the U.S. aesthetics marketplace. Both are the same product botulinum toxin type A, a derived protein relaxes targeted muscles and reduces lines and wrinkles. . Dysport™ uses a protein botulinum toxin type A that is slightly smaller, so there are claims that the injections are less painful and it is stated that the onset is more rapid, so it assimilates and activates quicker than BOTOX®. Both last about the same amount of time, and in some cases, Dysport™ will be less expensive.

Now both products can wage war on age since there are two wrinkle treatments that multiply physician choices and cosmetic options within the same medical practice and spa.

The same doctors who have used Botox® for years may offer Dysport™. Ask your physician if he or she has a preference and why.
