BOTOX® Number One for Doctors and Patients

Botox®

BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are the most popular FDA approved prescription injections to reduce lines, wrinkles and furrows, improve the signs of aging and reduce or eliminate migraine headaches for people 18 and older.

BOTOX® is safe, but it is derived from Botulinum toxin, a powerful protein that is considered to be one of the most effective neurotoxin treatments ever discovered. BOTOX® Cosmetic is manufactured by Allergan, which also produces other cosmetic and plastic surgery products.

Discover why BOTOX® is chosen by doctors, cosmetic and plastic surgeons and dermatologists all over the world.

Every year, millions of women and men select BOTOX® as a number one anti-aging treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, lines and to make them look less tired. As we age, we form wrinkles and lines in our face and forehead that make us look older. BOTOX® helps people look refreshed, younger and more rejuvenated. Years of repetitious facial movements, squinting, frowning and even sun can deepen lines and make wrinkles more visible. BOTOX® is a solution to improve your appearance and add new vibrant expression to your face.

BOTOX® is preferred as an anti-aging treatment because patients can make an appointment for injections, and look years younger after one treatment. The amount of BOTOX® used in a single 30 minute appointment will depend on how many lines and wrinkles you have and if they are deep or superficial. Treatment using BOTOX® is simple. Your doctor or practitioner will consult with you and recommend the proper amount to use, per your case. Once determined, your BOTOX® trained healthcare specialist will take the proper measured amount and inject the BOTOX® into specific muscle locations to "relax" or "paralyze" the muscles and eliminate the lines. In addition, recent studies have shown the effectiveness of BOTOX® for migraine headaches. A growing list a patients get BOTOX® as a treatment for painful headaches that alter their lives.

BOTOX® Safety and Side Effects

BOTOX® is safe, but there can be side-effects. Any time you inject a toxin into the system, even if it is proven and FDA approved, there can be side effects. The most common, mild side effects are uneven brows or droopiness in the eye areas when injected into the forehead. In addition, patients may need time to adjust to the limited movement in the injected areas, for example, around the mouth.

BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic can cause serious side effects, even life-threatening ones. If you experience unusual discomfort after getting BOTOX®, then you should contact a doctor or get help immediately. Here are some issues that may arise from treatment with BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic:

  • Difficulty with speaking, swallowing, and breathing. These symptoms can occur within hours or weeks. The reaction is caused when the injection complicates muscle reaction. If you notice these problems seek medical attention.
  • If you experience breathing problems or have Asthma, then ask your physician before getting BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic.
  • If swallowing problems occur, they may last for several months, and may require treatment.
  • BOTOX® can spread and affect other areas of the body away from the injection site. This is rare, but it can occur. If you notice muscle complications, seek help for this condition called botulism.

The most common symptoms of botulism include:

  • muscle weakness and loss of strength
  • blurred or double vision
  • drooping eyelids
  • voice change or hoarseness called (dysphonia)
  • speech impairment and trouble speaking clearly (dysarthria)
  • bladder control issues and loss of control
  • breathing problems
  • swallowing problems

These symptoms can happen hours to weeks after you receive an injection of BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic and they will require medical attention. If these symptoms occur, you should avoid activities that may be dangerous, like operating vehicles.

No serious confirmed case of spread of toxin effect has occurred away from the injection site when BOTOX® when used at the recommended dose.

Patients must confirm with the practitioner or physician that they are in fact receiving the labeled product BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic in the appropriate container. Complications and cases have been caused by people proclaiming to administer BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic, when in fact the product was something else.

Botox Versus Dysport

BOTOX® was introduced and manufactured by Allergan (the company that also produces JUVÉDERM®, Medicis, a dermal filler leader (known for their popular Restylane® and Perlane® facial fillers) produces Dysport™

The popularity of BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic encouraged the arrival of Dysport™ into the U.S. aesthetics marketplace. Both are the same product botulinum toxin type A, a derived protein relaxes targeted muscles and reduces lines and wrinkles. . Dysport™ uses a protein botulinum toxin type A that is slighlty smaller, so there are claims that the injections are less painful and it is stated that the onset is more rapid, so it assimilates and activates quicker than BOTOX®. Both last about the same amount of time, and in some cases, Dysport™ will be less expensive.

Now both products can wage war on age since there are two wrinkle treatments that multiply physician choices and cosmetic options within the same medical practice and spa.

The same doctors who have used Botox® for years may offer Dysport™. Ask your physician if he or she has a preference and why.
